The Association of European Journalists (AEJ) Media Freedom Workshop was held as the final session of the Dublin Congress. Roughly 100 members debated the growing threats to journalistic freedom including undue interference and censorship.
Manana Aslamazyan and Gillian McCormack of Internews Europe prepared the report on Russian media as a part the AEJ media freedom survey of 20 European countries. The report researched freedom of expression and barriers to media freedom in Russia, including criminal libel and defamation laws employed against Russian journalists.
Manana Aslamazyan, President of Internews Europe and co-author of the Russia Report in the AEJ Survey, participated in the panel discussion focused on political, legal, and commercial pressures on the media. Aslamazyan, in her speech at "Watchdogs or Lapdogs?" workshop, explained that: "Russian journalists feel isolated and need much stronger support and solidarity from their colleagues in other parts of Europe."
Internews Europe believes cooperating with European media and the AEJ Media Freedom Network to exchange of information on media freedom issues.
